How the Paving Cost Estimator Works

This estimator uses current Australian market rates for paving materials across seven popular types. Simply select your paving material, enter the total area in square metres, and choose between standard or premium quality. The calculator returns a total project cost range based on industry pricing for 2025–26.

Note: These estimates cover material supply only. Labour, site preparation, base layers, edge restraints and GST are additional. For a full quote, always speak with a local paving contractor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the estimate include labour?
No. This calculator estimates material costs only. Labour rates vary by state and contractor complexity. Expect to budget an additional $40–$80/m² for standard installation, depending on site access and preparation required.
What's included in the base layer cost?
The base layer (road base, compacted sand, cement stabilisation) is typically quoted separately by contractors. Budget approximately $15–$30/m² for a standard 100–150 mm compacted base suitable for pedestrian or light vehicular traffic.
Is permeable paving more expensive than brick pavers?
Permeable pavers are moderately more expensive than basic brick pavers — around $30–40% more for the material itself. However, they often reduce or eliminate the need for stormwater drainage infrastructure, which can offset the higher material cost on larger projects.
How do I choose between standard and premium quality?
Standard quality covers mid-range, durable products suitable for most residential applications. Premium quality includes higher-grade materials with tighter tolerances, better colour consistency, thicker pavers for heavier loads, and often longer warranties. For high-traffic commercial areas or luxury homes, premium is recommended.
