Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert hourly rate to annual salary in Australia?▾
Multiply your hourly rate by your weekly hours, then multiply by 52 (weeks per year). For example: $35/hr × 38 hours × 52 weeks = $69,160 annual salary. If you take unpaid leave, use the actual weeks worked instead of 52.
Is superannuation included in my hourly rate?▾
It depends on how your employer quotes the rate. Some employers quote an all-inclusive hourly rate (super included), while others quote the base rate and pay super on top. If you're unsure, check your employment contract or payslip. Super is 11.5% of ordinary earnings for 2025–26 and must be paid by law for most employees earning over $450/month.
What is a good hourly rate in Australia?▾
The national minimum wage is $24.10/hr. The median full-time adult employee earns around $45–50/hr equivalent ($90,000–$100,000/year). Skilled trades typically earn $35–$65/hr; professionals (accountants, engineers, nurses) $40–$80/hr; IT roles $50–$100+/hr. What's "good" depends heavily on your industry, experience, and location.
How many work hours are in a year in Australia?▾
A standard full-time employee working 38 hours/week for 52 weeks works 1,976 hours per year. After taking out 4 weeks annual leave (152 hours), actual paid working hours are 1,824 per year. For calculating annual salary from hourly rate, use 1,976 (gross hours, including paid leave).
Do casual employees get a higher hourly rate?▾
Yes. Casual employees receive a casual loading of at least 25% on top of the base rate to compensate for not receiving paid leave entitlements (annual leave, sick leave, etc.). So if a permanent employee earns $30/hr, a casual doing the same role should earn at least $37.50/hr. Some awards set higher casual loadings.
